After our stay at the Dead Sea, we took the three hour drive south to the ancient city of Petra. Petra is probably best known to most of us as for its part in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It's inside what's now called the Treasury where Indy finds the Holy Grail. Some of the locals have decided to market this connection to sell a few fedoras. We went for the more traditional bedouin wraps however.
We took a short horseback ride 2 miles down to the start of a canyon called The Siq and then had to walk in from there. As you get to the end of the path it opens up and you can see the immense Treasury structure carved into the cliff face at the end. What's left of Petra is basically a city cut into the rocks. Some of the "buildings" you're allowed to walk into, other like the Treasury are gated off.
It's a good thing that you're allowed to go inside a lot of the places, because the weather while we were there was horrible. It POURED down rain almost the entire time. Unfortunately, I didn't have my raincoat, just a normal jacket. We were drenched.
