Amsterdam is a beautiful city, and pretty much lives up to its reputation. We headed there for the long holiday weekend from Libya. It has the typical Dutch row houses I'm come to expect from all the porcelin figurines you get on KLM, Royal Dutch Airline Flights.

An in a city that is 25% below the floodplain, there are lots of canals and boat houses throughout. It can get difficult to find your way around since every canal street looks the same.

Amsterdam is known for several things, and when your official flag is an advertisement for your prevalent sex industry you must have come to terms with what people think about you. Overall, though the city didn't feel sleazy, and the people were really nice. I think the copious amounts of weed they all smoke helps them in that regard. It's illegal to smoke a tobacco cigarette inside a restaraunt, but you can smoke all the 'funny' ones you want. Many of them do, even at 10am when you're trying to enjoy your breakfast.

In addition to the debauchery you can find all around you, there is also a lot of cultural things you can do. There were two really nice museums we got to go see: The Van Gogh and the Rijks Museum. The only problem with museums is they don't let you take pictures in most of them. It makes it kind of hard to write anything interesting when you can't provide the visuals.
